Hi there i have a bantam family, who had hatched eggs in spring, it is now going into winter here in new zealand and they are hatching babies again. they have three babies and are sitting on about a dozen eggs. is that normal for them to go broady in winter? i'm very lucky with these bantums as i have hardly ever had to do anything with these gals apart from love and feed them. one of the babies got thrown out of the nest last night so i am now proud mumma of that. but they are happy for me to give it back after i have reared it as i have done that with other chickens of their's, and they are more than happy to accept it back in their flock.
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
anyway I hoped that they would stay broody so I can hatch chicks for the spring and 4 of them did! I'm 2 weeks in the hatch so far, can't wait!!
