Winter duck house...

They don't need to be so warm. They did just fine last year with a little wooden shack covered with plastic. The wind can be a problem. Here in Vermont where I live though, all water sources are completely frozen in winter, and I'd love it if i didn't have to worry about them freezing their feet off.. in the winter, they'll walk 2 or 3 yards, then they have to lay down and stick their feet up into their belly feathers... so they can't go too far at all!

I agree. As long as they have shelter from wind and harsh sleet they are pretty hardy. Give them shelter so they have a choice. My ducks go in a large dog box to get away from the wind more then any other weather.

They are in a pen big enough to flap their wings and have a baby pool inside so on days I work and cannot get them out they are happy. I cannot let them free range when I am not home because of coyotes, Eagles and neighbors dogs. In this pen I have a Khaki Campbell and a Blue Swedish. In another pen I have six Call ducks. I have nailed pallets together (they are free) and nailed chicken wire on the inside. The pallets are sturdy and protect from predators being able to get close to the birds. They also reduce wind, produce shade and allow sun and plenty of ventilation. I put a dog box in each one for added protection.

We are building pens now but these worked wonderfully for us. Goos Luck!
