Winter hardy birds?

You know, I love my buff orps and would stand behind their heavy rear ends to say they are very winter hardy, but their combs don't do well in bitter cold weather.

I do know that my EEs and Araucana do very well in winter. They have pea combs which fair better and have less chance of frostbite and they take on any kind of weather to get out and range. Even in 2 feet of snow, they will fly from path to path that I shovel for them to get around outside in the middle of winter.

My main concern is surviving well thru the winter...i had an easter egger rooster and 2 black tailed japanese bantams that had damage to their combs this winter. Egg laying is a concern too but I just want to make sure that my chickens can thrive as well as possible. My silkies have done great and my silver polish hen has laid thru the entire winter!
