Winter Hardy Chickens

I vote for CHanteclers too! They are super winter hardy birds. AND they lay year round!

Those of you in the cold climates, do you typically used a heat lamp or infared lamp? I live in upstate NY and think its going to be a harsh winter. I was wondering if I should run electric out to my barn before the ground freezes. I have 8 EE's.

I live in NNY and we've used infared heat lamps for the last 2 winters. They'vce worked pretty well. This year at night I'm going to use some black heat lamps for night time.​

I have some bantam cochins that have done well.

I am sure brahmas and Wyandottes would do great with their rosecombs.

Orpingtons, any feather footed breed, and I know this sounds weird but NNs

. They somehow survive in that cold enviroment really well. But if it gets to below -50 I'm not sure if they could handle that
