Winter Ideas

This is my first winter with chickens. I live in Ma close to Boston. We do get some bad winters here and I was just wondering what some of you may have come up with to make things easier caring for your chcikens in the winter. Looking for tried and true tips to make life as easy as possible with the day to day caring of my chickens. I have two coops. One has electrical so I can plug in an heated waterer. The other I guess I could use an ext cord to the porch it's not that far away from our house. I was thinking of how you add water to the waterers as the outdoor water will be shut off in winter...what do you use/do. Things like that.

I usually fill two 2 gallon watering pots in the garage or basement sink & truck them out to rinse & fill my 3 gallon waterer. It helps when it's icy to carry one in each hand for balance!
