I will try that. It has been a gradual process to even get her in the nesting box. She has certainly been low bird on the totem pole. Her head is bald - scarred from years of being pecked. Not sure she will roost next to any of the birds, but worth trying. Thank you.
 
Thanks so much! Sounds wonderful. I do have straw. Perhaps I should mix the two some - a layer of straw and then some shavings on top of that. Yes, we do like clean feet for sure!!

We get to -20 and my frizzles do fine. Your weather is considered balmy to us. I use hay because they can also forage through it. Frizzle cochins are tender hearted and can be bullied easily. Glad you gave her a better home with more compatible birds.
 
Winter is no longer a theoretical "coming soon." It is here. We're having a high of 16 F on Monday with a low of 1. Am hoping all we've done to prepare for this season is enough.
