I think in the natural scheme of things, a hen will go broody, then molt b/c of her prolonged fast.

She didn't molt after either, mama'd the chicks for 6 weeks then went back to roo and laying.

Does anyone have a fade to Sunrise timer on their light system for your chickens? And if so where would you get that at? Thank you.

So I completely forgot about winter lighting until about 2 days ago. So I can't exactly start in Aug/Sept. My ducks haven't been laying, and the I'm getting about 1-4 eggs a day out of 16 potential layers. I have 7, chickens that will be 3 yrs in April, 4 that will be 2 in March, 1 that will be 2 in August and 4 that are 22 weeks. Should they all still be laying?

Start based on current hours of day light, and add 1/2 to 1 hour/week until you get to 14 hours.
