About 3 weeks ago a guinea fowl hen showed up in the backyard, and has been here everyday since. She eats the birdseed put out for smaller birds, and has taken a liking to us. She is all alone, and often calls outside the window for one of us to come out. We are worried about her welfare for the winter, as we live just south of Chicago. We would like to know what to feed her, and if we need to provide some sort of shelter for her. She likes to come in the garage/workshop, and has even ventured into the house. Can a lone guinea hen survive in the wild in the winter? We should add that the area is wooded, and there are foxes and coyotes that roam.

I wouldnt let her roam... But put her in with the other chickens for warmth through winter and she will be fine.

you should give her some high protein feed, maybe mix it in with the other bird food. You are never gonna be able to separate her from the other birds to eat, but you will be able to slightly get her and the other birds protein level up.

not sure if you put straw out, but mine love the seeds in it. It keeps them busy also.
