Winterizing coop?

I would love you to go to this page. I purchased this Eglu Cube chicken coop. Read the part on this page talking about raising chickens in Canada. I am not suggesting you buy a coop just use the info about double wall/insulating space and apply to your set up. Killer tomato is suggesting the same thing double walls with insulation but you must have ventilation.
good luck!

All right, I'll check it out. I was hoping to leave some of the roof open a bit that goes into the second floor for insulation

Post some pics of your coop so we can make viable suggestions.
Ventilation is important year round, chicken are pretty cold hardy.
Keeping water thawed may be your biggest challenge without power.
How much snow and freezing weather do you have?

I was wondering about using a 12 volt battery with a solar trickle charger to burn a 25 watt 12volt light bulb on a timer. That could be on for a few hours a day.
I have a coop too far from the house for an easy outlet, so we set up two 12V batteries on a solar panel. Total cost around $300. Right now it's running an electric poultry fence but it's can also be hooked up to a light or a fan. In winter, it will probably help defrost the water bucket too.

We dont get much snow. Tend to get more ice than anything. I'll post up pics as soon as I can.

Now remember it is a work in progress area. A few holes will be mended anyways before winter. They are small where I wasnt worried about anything sneaking through. The first pics of the top are showing areas that I will not block off for ventilation. Ignore the mess gotta get more hay
