It's not too small, I have a light in my Chick-N-Hutch.
I removed the poop tray and replaced it with a string of 100 Christmas lights(non-LED style) I stapled out of pecking distance below them.
Just don't make them too warm, wouldn't want them to die from cold shock if you loose power etc.
More importantly I'd (and I did already) replace roost's with 2x4's so they sleep on their toesies to keep them from getting frostbite.
My light is on a timer to come on at 4am, off at 10, on at 6 and off at 7.
