Winterizing the nipple waterer??

Thanks for all the comments! Since some people here, and on the Facebook poultry group I'm in, have had success just heating the water, I think I'll give that a try first. Maybe I'll have to switch to a homemade horizontal nipple waterer for the winter! Ugh, I wish I had known before I rigged up my current system... Oh well. If anyone else has more experiences or advice to share, I'd love to hear more!

Don't forget to insulate the bucket. Every little helps.

Thanks! I just bought a heated dog water dish - I figure I'll use the nipple waterer for awhile longer, then switch to the bowl for the winter. Simple, and cheaper than trying to make the nipple waterer freeze-proof.
