Winterizing

I'm a first time duck owner. I'm afraid to say that winter is just around the corner. I like to plain ahead. I was wondering how do I get the water to not freeze. I am using a 55 gallon barrel for there drinking source with cups all around the bottom of it. Then I have a 50 gallon Rubbermaid stock tank I believe it is plus a bath tub. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello How did you make out with your waterer? I've heard that the issue with the cups is that they freeze. How cold does it get?

Im in SE PA, I switch to bowls of water in winter, the cups freeze. Dump the water before bed and then refill on the morning.

I only use horizontal nipples no cups in winter. I put a stock tank heater in my trash can waterer with horiz. nipples. I have a closed loop PVC system with horiz. nipples in coop and I add aquarium heater in winter. We can get to 20° below in Jan with wind chill if 50 below. Just fyi.

Heated buckets work really well too.
