I have chicks that are 1 1/2 - 2 wks old & was wondering if a wire bottom (1x1/2") would be ok for them. I have a rabbit cage with a tray that is bigger than the box they are in now.

    Thank you in advance!

I forgot to add that my chicks are LF not bantams. Thank you!

Wire is hard on their little feet and rats and possums and stuff can eat toes through the wire. If you want to use the rabbit cage, lay a board or something on the wire or use a thick layer of pine litter to keep their feet off the wire.

Thank you, Anianna. I've decided that I'm going to put cardboard over the wire and around the cage then use shavings for bedding. They are still in the house so predators aren't an issue but I agree the wire would be hard on their feet.
