I had a chick (4 weeks old) that was getting pecked in her tail feathers. To the point of creating a bald spot and some bleeding. I immediately separated her from the others last week and she has been like that until this evening. Before I put her back I made sure all of the scab had come off so as not to attract more pecking. Unfortunately she still has somewhat of a bald spot. I hope that doesn't attract their eyes. I just reintroduced her about an hour or so ago. I'm keeping a close eye on everything and so far so good.

I am going to try and get them ready for the coop this weekend. So I am going to turn the light off at night at first. Hopefully they just sleep all night in the dark and don't get at her while I'm sleeping!

I'm nervous for her.....

Wish her / and me luck!

You did a good job isolating her when you did! Unfortunately, they may peck at her again if that's what they were doing before.

Is your heat lamp red, or white light? Red light usually causes less pecking than white light.

It sounds like you're doing everything you should be doing. You could hook up a baby monitor, if you're really worried.

Good luck!

Well, they left her alone all evening. I turned the light out as planned. At first they all starting peeping because I think they were confused, since they've had a light on them since I got them. Then they all went quiet and went to sleep.

In the morning I picked her up to check her tail and she was fine!!

They didn't bother her at all.

Now the trick will be today. I turned the light back on this morning, gave them fresh feed and water, covered a few poopy spots (man are their poop piles getting big!!! Sorry, a little too much info huh?

), and left for work. So we'll see what her butt looks like when I get home. I hope they aren't getting at her right now.....

Two new little ones joining the group tomorrow (some Silver Laced Wyandottes!!) They'll be in a separate box of course. I really wanted SLW's and now I am getting them on my birthday! SWEET!

I'm so glad they accepted her!

Time to bring in the 2 new ones! I am so excited to see the SLW's grow up!
