I have a 10 week old barred rock pullet that I noticed today being withdrawn from the flock. When I fed them she stayed at the back of the coop and walked back and forth a little, then came forward and jumped on the roost and sidled up to another pullet and laid down. When it moved and another jumped up on the other end of the roost, she walked over to it and cuddled up and laid down again. She wasn't eating and wasn't acting herself, she is usually right there at the coop door and first in line for feed. I saw her poop once and it was a colored watery drop.
We decided to pull her out and put her in a small pen to watch her. She is very thin, her crop was empty, and she felt hot (I didn't take her temp or grab another chick to see how much hotter she was). Her tail is not drooping, but her face may be a tad paler than two of the other three but not extremely. Her eyes still were bright too. She is in with 3 other barred rocks and 6 keets the same age.
Once she settled in her little pen she started pecking around, ignoring the chick starter and eating some pieces of dead leaves, and I saw her intentionally eat 2 fluffy feathers, then she would try to eat some dirt, but she wouldn't even eat any grubblies which this flock goes completely crazy over.
I ended up mixing an egg yolk with some warm water, a tad of honey, and some chick starter, she ate some of that. Where I drizzled extra water in it in front of her she liked eating the wetter spots better. I did not see her drink anything.
We had to run into town and it was dark when we got back, she was up roosting and had several normal poops below her and her crop had food in it. We put her back into the coop on the roost with the others, I'm not sure if that was the right thing to do or not, but at this point I'm planning on taking her out once per day for a few days to making sure she's eating ok and checking her weight.
Any advice? Did I do decent for her so far and is my plan acceptable for going forward as long as her condition stays the same or improves? This is my first sick chick and my first year back into chickens since I was real little. So far I've done what my gut has told me to do from what I've read on these forums over the past few months.
