without a trace

here as well. We are in the open Prairie. No trees, no shelter, nada. If my wheatons stop moving you can't see them at all. My sussex and speckled marans......may as well have stobe lights on their heads. LOL.

I had a German Shepherd who looked to be best buds with a rooster I had, both got along quite well until one day the puppy just killed it. Sometimes they don't know their limitations or their primal instinct kicks in for whatever reason and they just can't help it. I'm thinking your boxer did it.

As much as I would love to think it wasn’t your dog, that is a possibility because my dog, who is great with chickens, killed like 5-10 guineas (about 1-2 months old). I don’t know if he wanted to play with them and broke their neck accidentally or if he knew what he was doing and was playing with his “food”. I don’t know if guineas have an enticing scent or something but to me they smell gamey (aka wild) compared to chickens.

But I wouldn’t get rid of a dog solely because of that, since he can be trained. But most likely it was a predator who got the others if there is no trace because I saw the evidence of my guineas who were killed by my dog but I’ve never seen evidence of when a predator has gotten my birds.
