when I came down to let the chickens out into the garden one of my girls was just sat on the floor and didn't move. I carried her away to have a look at her. her feathers are fluffed up, her wings droopy and she kept shaking her head and opening her mouth. I left her there for a bit and she sat there and went to sleep and after a while tried to stand up but was very shaky and fell over.she is about 2 and a half years old and is an ex-bat hen.we have isolated her from the others with food and water but she doesn't seem very interested in it.thanks
Sounds like she may have had a stroke. Many of my girls have had strokes, but only two have died of them. The first hen just died after a while... Wasn't sure what to do, she was the first chicken that ever had a stroke in our coop. And the other hen, she was deformed and strange for her whole life, and one day she just had a whole bunch of strokes at the same time and ended up dying. I suggest keeping her in a separate area for a while, maybe add a special vitamin powder to her water if you have any. If you want you could try and give her a syringe of the vitamin-powder-water, but only if she looks well enough for it and actually drinks a bit. Sorry, that's all I know! You could try searching up more about Chicken Strokes on google if you want more information Though. Good luck!
