Wolves are friendly

I can not agree that that would kill every last moose and only then move on.

As hunting became more difficult - due to less and less prey - the wolves would move on to areas with more abundant prey.
Then other moose would migrate into the area and re populate it when wolf numbers were lower.

If you proposal was true wolves and other predators would eat all the prey so nothing was left and then the predators would starve.

As I said, the problem is that the natural habitat is disrupted in most areas and does not allow for free movement of animals. If this happens then maybe the wolves would not be able to freely move away and so they would have to eat all the moose in that area. So we must either control prey and predator numbers ourselves or make areas to link up the isolated good habitats so animals can migrate and move about.

I am glad to hear in Alaska you still have wilderness left. I hope to travel to Alaska some day. If looks beautiful!

I like wolves, I like mice (er, mooses).

But what I want to know is who the person who posted this thread is. :caf

Does anyone actually have any experience with Wolves or Wolf Dog Crosses? I think a few misconceptions are happening here. Wolves aren't friendly to people because it's a Wolf. Just because they are the ancestors of most breeds of dog does not mean they are going to act like them. A wolf is a wild animal that should be treated as such. While many people view them as pests they have their place in the ecosystem just like any other species. If they were around many species would go unchecked causing herbivores to populate at a faster space than the land can handle. They would cause in turn destroy plants and land that many people could potentially use to raise livestock. While it may be easy to just call Wolves killers and use them as scapegoats for our problems the truth is that couldn't be farther from the truth. If you would like to help your local Wolf population you should refer to your local fish and game to see if there is any way you can assist them.
