Won’t leave laying box

@CHELLYB0E Yup, she'll need chicken jail :gig

If you have room you can set it up in the coop; I didn't so I set up a medium/large dog crate within view of the coop/run. This seems to be the one exception to flock isolation as her flockmates all think she's lost her mind anyway  The rule of thumb seems to be let her out come evening and if she makes for that nesting spot, back in she goes! Took mine two days, some need a couple longer. She sounds very determined! :rantI heard it described as the "fluffy screeching pancake" version of your normal chicken and about died laughing at the accurate portrayal! :lau

Our little silkie will not leave the laying box. She’s not laying any eggs. The other chickens (who are normally mean to her) have gone to laying eggs where ever in the coop. The other Silkie and one Red will often sit with her. But she only comes out occasionally and not for very long. This has gone on for several days. I thought maybe it was the heat, but the last two days has been considerably cooler.
Is this a problem? Or let it go?
She’s brooding

If you don't want her to hatch out chicks, best to break her broodiness promptly.

My experience goes about like this: After her setting for 3 days and nights in the nest (or as soon as I know they are broody), I put her in a wire dog crate with smaller wire on the bottom but no bedding, set up on a couple of 4x4's right in the coop or run with feed and water.

I used to let them out a couple times a day, but now just once a day in the evening(you don't have to) and she would go out into the run, drop a huge turd, race around running, take a vigorous dust bath then head back to the nest... at which point I put her back in the crate. Each time her outings would lengthen a bit, eating, drinking and scratching more and on the 3rd afternoon she stayed out of the nest and went to roost that evening...event over, back to normal tho she didn't lay for another week or two. Or take her out of crate daily very near roosting time(30-60 mins) if she goes to roost great, if she goes to nest put her back in crate.

Chunk of 2x4 for a 'roost' was added to crate floor after pic was taken.

Thank you all so much for the tips. We put her in chicken jail (had to put a friend in with her since she was freaking out so bad). She’s doing so much better now! I appreciate all the advice and help!
