Wondering about breeding...

Do you already have chickens and a coop and run to keep them in??

Good that you're thinking ahead
It's fun to plan breedings, but not so much fun when you have oodles of birds and no place to keep them. BTDT.

Will you use an incubator to hatch the fertile eggs?
Where will you put all the chicks?
...and what will you do with the inevitable ~50% males that will hatch?
I so far have a tiny coop that we put the older chicks outside in and a big coop that we put just random breeds in that we are not going to breed with and those two coops are in the same run. I was thinking once the older chicks turn into adults that we put some of the chickens that we are going to breed in there (1 rooster 4 hens) then we let them breed, we need more coops though and we have a small property. We would use a incubator to hatch the chicks. That's a good question where we would put the chicks once they hatch, we have been keeping our little chicks in our house in a pretty big cage so maybe we would put them in there temperareraly. Most likely we wI'll sell them unsexed because we don't know hot to sex them right.

You can do your ideas, but think in terms of years, instead of all right now. Have a single rooster of one of the breeds, and have him cover all of the birds.... just keep and hatch the eggs of the hens that match him. Next year, get a new rooster, and try the second idea. and so on.
