Found this on one of old threads here on forum. Got me wondering if it really works? I don't have problem with mites/lice yet :fl

"Spraying your coop and roosts for several days in a row with a mixture of 2 cups water, 1 cup cooking oil and 1 tablespoon dish washing liquid will help kill off the mites that leave the hens by suffocating them. Shake well before using because the mixture will separate. The coop should be sprayed at least once or twice a week for several weeks in conjunction with treating your hens directly"

The oil or grease wil help according to what i have read from other people.
I wouldn’t use water. A wet or moisture coop is not good for their health. A dry coop with lots of ventilation and daylight is recommended.

I use DE (diatomaceous earth) to prevent a mite infestation. I ‘paint’ the roosts /joints and the area where the chickens sleep/lay eggs 2 times every year. In spring and summer. And add a few teaspoons to their sand bath area in the run. So far it worked great (7 years now).
