Hello new member here. I have just started learning about raising chickens. I haven't bought any yet. I don't know if I should since it's getting closer to fall or wait until spring again. If I wait I will have time to get my coop ready any time to think on what kind of breeds to get

Since you don't have a coop ready (and building one in the winter is a pain), and you want time to think about the breeds, I would wait. Although, if you get them now, you wont have to worry about hatcheries running out of chicks, which is super common in the spring. I know that this last spring a lot of people had a really hard time getting chicks due to the high demand for them. If you get chicks now, they will likely start laying January-April time frame.

Greetings & Salutations. Welcome.

It's good that you are reading and learning before you have the chicks. You can get chicks now but will the coop be ready in 7ish weeks from when you receive them? If not ready sooner. They grow quickly.

This is a wonderful site on which to Learn and enjoy. We are pleased to have you in the community.

Welcome in! If you're anything like me (someone who grossly underestimates how long projects will take), hold off until spring. It also gives you a chance to iron out any kinks in the coop/run before birds are living in it. Much easier to fix a leaky roof when it's empty!
