Oh, lordy!!!! Not only will they not lay eggs in the nesting boxes but, now, I've just found a clutch of TEN eggs laid out in the WOODS!!!!!! What am I gonna do with this flock of nuts???
I've seen some people recommend keeping them locked up in the coop until noon or so to encourage them to lay in the coop. This is pretty common in free rangers though, just think of it was easter egg hunt for adults!
