WOO HOO - My first split to lavender chicks - Pics added

Christina~ I hatched some splits from eggs I got from Harry, but they are still young, and I have a lavender cockerel for them. I've been waiting for the black pullets from John to lay so I can hatch splits from his cockerels over his pullets so I have two pens going. None of those pullets will lay, and they are plenty old enough. Most of them are really red now in the combs so I assume eggs are right around the corner. I have bantams from him too, also not laying. I sold my silvers to a lady on BYC, and they are laying for her

Well, the orp blues are laying up a storm and the older blacks are laying.
My black pullets form Paul Smith are not laying yet. I hope they start soon. Guess with them I just have to wait. I do have some four month old project Orps and I dont think I will see eggs form them for a long time. One thing I noticed about Exhibition birds they take forever to start laying. I just wish you could get the looks of the Exhibitions and the eggs laying ability of the productions.
To bad you didnt get 5 pullets and 2 roos. It never works out for me that way either. I've just started hatching some more blacks. I have two hens in with a younger cockerel and he is doing his job they are fertile. Now if I can just talk those young black pullets into laying. They are getting really red in the combs now too.

Sending pullet vibes your way Jean.

All done hatching until the gals start laying again. I told my husband he has to get electricity in there before the end of the year so we can take it as a tax write off.

I did hatch a little delaware X buff ameraucana egg too. I am trying to hatch some birds that will lay a big egg (and this bird lays a big egg) and be big bodied so I can butcher the males. The buff cockerel is just under 10 lbs, which is way over standard for ameraucanas.

I'd love to see pics of the inside of your building sometime. Always looking for good ideas.

Not that I am anywhere near having such a nice facility at this time, but a girl can dream right?

where is Newman Lake WA? I have never heard of it I live in Mt Vernon. You must be on the East side of the mountains

I am going back to work on Friday, I work for Boeing and we get mass amounts of parts in big wood boxes so I am going to stock up big and build some cool coops. I have a picture window that I can look out of, I am going to place a coop for my grandson to see the chickens and stay inside and be warm.

I'll see if I can get some pics tomorrow of the inside and the runs. It's nothing fancy, just large enough to hold 5 different pens for breeding and one bigger pen for the layers.

Jean, I think you have a great set up. I wish mine was like yours.
