Woochips or straw for concrete run

    We are building a run over concrete and we are debating on using woodchips or straw ,any suggestions

    Based off of personal experience, I would say use wood chips (pine). Don't get me wrong, straw is a good bedding, but once it collects so much moisture, it may begin to mold, staining your concrete and making your chickens prone to diseases. Wood chips are easy to clean up, do not clump very much, and I don't know about you, but they are also cheaper. I have used pine shavings (wood chips) for years and have had no problems.

    I must state that if the run is concrete, make sure you layer the bedding quite a bit. Chicken poop will stain it instantly. That is why I no longer have a concrete run.
