wood ash, is that safe?

someone was asking about this on another list. I have a lot of this, but I don't think it sounds like a good idea.

I used to use wood ashes out in their run for them to dust bathe in. It worked as far as keeping them mite and lice free.

I'd still use it if we had room for a woodstove.

I use ash from fireplace for the run. They love it. Just don't pick them up for awhile

Yes, wood ash from wood burning stoves. Only wood burning tho no plastics or paper added. Good for them to dust in to help keep the buggies away.

We always take a bucket or two out to the runs after they have cooled for the chickens to dust in during woodstove burning season.

Wood Ash from the burning of wood - nothing else - is excellent for the birds to dust bathe in. It helps to keep them free of mites and lice.

I highly recommend it. Do not burn trash paneling or plywood though. Only natural wood.
