Wood chip run

Hi guys, after having a dirt floor and about 3months of rain I ended up with a swamp! So ordered some hardwood woodchip online, very expensive but it's quite a large run so ....... Anyway now it's nice and dry and seems clean however I'm not actually removing any poop! It's impossible ! Can't see it,it just disappears into the woodchips, so my question is.. Is raking the woodchips daily enough? It doesn't smell or look dirty and I clean the coop daily putting newspaper lining, woodshavings and shredded paper so that's lovely and fresh all the time, but will it start to smell and is it hygienic to not remove the poop? What do others do with woodchip floors? Thanks

I woudnt put wood chip for an outdoor run. I just think it would start to smell after awhile. Ive always had a dirt run and every couple months just spray it off with a hose really good and i havent had any problems. ive been seeing alot more people are going with sand runs and swear by it. the only thing about sand i think i wouldnt like is, have you ever walked on a beach on a hot sunny day? I just think it would get to hot. but alot of people are going that way.

I do both and am very happy with it..The pavers are for me to tip toe across.
