I was curious about wood chips for the coop. I have access to a lot free wood chips from a tree service that I work with. Would this be acceptable material or does it need to be just pine shavings? Is there a type or types of wood that would cause a problem for the chickens? Thanks

As long as it's not Cedar chips you should be OK. Cedar puts off a chemical that can make your chickens sick or even die.

Pine shavings smell real nice too!

Just remember that if you plan on composting your chicken waste for use in the garden, wood chips and flakes take an awfully long time to breakdown and decompose, they don't make for very good compost just sayin.

Same here. So I guess if I plan to clean the coop right now, I could put down some wood chips, plus a bit of shavings before I get to the store to buy more pine shavings.
