Wood chips for dirt floor run

I agree with aart on few inches and keep dry. The last thing you need is moldy run for all of you.
No need to keep them dry.

Wood chips if they don’t dry out cause mold
Not necessarily.

It's true that freshly chipped tree branches, especially if they contain lots of green leaves, can develop toxic levels of molds. That's why you spread them thin in the run and when adding take the outer layer of the pile to add more thin layers in the run.

Not sure who they can claim that wood chippings are "organic".
I'd ask them where exactly they are from.

Do you have a place to store a big pile of chippings?
I'd not dump too many in the run at once, you only need a couple-few inches at a time.
I'll make sure to ask. For storage we have a lot of space off to the side of the coop. My husband thinks since we do not need much (enough for a 17x5 run) we should just get bags of it instead...

Do they sell it in bags?
If the place is only 10 miles away, can you borrow pickup truck to get a smaller load?
