Wood Pellets for home heating

We put a pellet stove in our 100+ yr old house last fall to replace an old wood burning stove. I would never go back to that kind of stove again. Pellets are SO much easier to use, no cutting or splitting wood or hauling into the house. Just dump a couple bags in the hopper and we are set for hours or days depending on how cold it is and what setting you have the stove set on. Ours holds 3 40# bags at a time. We got ours at Tractor Supply, it is the King 1500 model. Fairly inexpensive, just a basic stove without all the chrome or gold plate trim that a lot of companies offer but works great.

We have used ours off and on and one thing we did notice is that our power bill went up some (I imagine the motor-auger) used up a bit. Also we like the warmth our pellet stove gives our floors. We usually get ours for about $220 a ton too. I noticed online that you can buy a machine that makes pellets (out of almost any organic material). It was super expensive, several thousand dollars. But if you had a bunch of neighbors who used pellet stoves you could make it work.
