I want to use wood shavings for bedding in my brooder.
My youngest poult is 11 days. Is it safe to use it now?

I use pine wood shavings starting from day one, the kind you get for bedding horse stalls.

What are you currently using?

I have been using old towels and kitchen roll.........but am almost out of old towels now.....lolol...

I am sure I read somewhere that its best not to use them initially as they will eat them instead of the food????
but if you have had no problem then I will give it a go.......

I read that to somewhere that wood shavings is not good right away because they will eat. I will be picking up my poults soon. so i was wondering the same thing.

If I could get some straw in this area, that's what I'd use. I prefer straw in the coop, nesting boxes, brooder and in the garden, but I cant find bales of straw here in central Texas. So I use shavings.
