wood shavings

My husband is a homebuilder and they use all types of wood in their shop.I know you can't use cedar,but what about maple,oak or cherry shavings?Is sawdust dangerous?

Shavings have never been an issue for me. Not pulverized wood, dust might be too fine for their tiny lungs I would imagine. Quarter to dime sized - I've never covered more than 50% of the brooder floor space either. It's free, resourceful, and thats awesome.
