Wood shavings

I compost them, scatter them in the woods, or put them in the green waste bin if there are a lot. I have also bagged them and thrown them away when dealing with a mite infestation. I've also burned them when burning was allowed (wildfire country, here).

My used coop bedding gets raked into my deep litter run, where the chickens scratch it around and eventually break it down into compost/dirt.
Didn't even notice it was in the wrong forum. Good catch! Thanks! It'll get many more responses there.

I dump them in the run and the chickens spread them out. In this pic, the old coop shavings, dumped in the run yesterday, are in the background, and in the foreground are new shavings from cutting firewood. All of it helps the soil in the run, attracts bugs that the chickens like to eat, etc.

We compost and then use it for everything! We keep several piles going all different ages with different mixes. Some are mixed with dirt, others with other organic materials like egg shells/veggie scraps etc.

-We cover our garden in the shaving compost in the fall then till it into the soil allowing it to sit all winter.

-Use it instead of mulch in the garden after we planted everything to keep the soil moist.

-We use it in our flower beds and around our trees before we put down new mulch every year.

-We have been planting trees and berry bushes so we dump a gallon in the whole, fill it with water and let it soak into the soil before we add the tree or bush.

-Use it as ground cover instead of straw where we planted new grass.

-Spread it out in the fields in late fall to help add nutrients back into the soil.

-Give it away free to the neighbors.
