What's the best bang for your buck as far as wood shavings go? That too, I'm interested in buying the shavings online
 
Buying shavings online is most likely a really bad idea. You will be wasting a lot of money that way because of shipping and handling. I just use my grandfather's planer and make my own shavings, so that is about the cheapest around for me, however going to a local lumber yard or saw mill (those are common where I live) and asking them for wood shavings may be very close to cheap or another free option (other than gas to go get it). The next option I suggest is going and looking into getting some wood chips or shavings from a family owned business. Locally, there is about three around me, but I do not know about you.
