Been wanting chickens for awhile now, but missed the opportunity at a free dog kennel to convert. I like to recycle and use what I have to do projects on the cheap so I decided to repurpose the bottom of my daughters wooden swing set fort. With some scrap wood, left over hardware cloth, a baby crib gate(my neighbor was tossing) and an assortment of screws I began. Below are some photos of before and after. I still don't have a flock yet, in which I will eventually add roost poles and a nest box. Will be a few months before chicks are old enough for coop.

Looks like a good start. We are also converting a play structure into a coop and will post photos soon. We plan to get day-old or young chicks at the end of April, as it will motivate us to finish building the coop and run.

Do you have a area in the coop where your chickens can get out of the weather? This is very important. From your pictures it looks like blowing rain could be a problem.

I live in Southern California and we don't get harsh weather. After speaking to many feed stores and local hobbyists they recommended tarps or some siding for a wind break if anything came along.
