My chickies are hatching!! It took forever for the first one but it finally hatched this morning around 6. Other's are starting to break thru. I'm so excited and can't wait till I can take them out of the bator.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice? This is my first hatch.

Fortworthchicks - Thanks and yes that's the one problem I'm having right now. It's so awesome to watch!!

Irish Ridge - I did open it once this morning. Is that a problem? Oh now I'm worried. I hope I didn't do anything to hurt the chicks.

This is my understanding from many hours of armchair reading in preparation of giving incubating another try:

Every time you open the incubator during lockdown it drops the humidity level. Too much of this causes the chicks to "shrink wrap" and not be able to zip their way out. Chicks can survive for at least three days after hatching, so they'll be fine in the incubator. Like others have said, just sit on your hands and watch.

If I'm wrong on this, someone please correct me.

Wow thanks for the info. I think I should be fine then. However the one and only hatchling is wondering all over the place and rollin all the other eggs around. I hope this is ok. I'm sure it is cuz it doesn't seem to be affecting the others that are almost thru. We will see though, like I said this is my husband and I's first hatch.

Thanks so much for the info and help!!

I have 2 doing that right now "official greeters" probably telling them to shake a leg I see another starting to zip pretty cool my first hatch in ages and I only can look thru a peep hole because I had equipment failure fixed now but too late for this batch when is Wednesday? I set mine 3/16 they started getting noisy yesterday afternoon....

Hey hope the hatch turns out great!!

I agree- Try not to open it too much. I opened mine a few too many times my first hatch for legitimate reasons (chicks needed help) and I experienced the shrink wrapping, thankfully I had no losses.

Thanks!! So far so good I watched the 2nd one hatch earlier just before heading out to run some errands and came back to a total of 4 chickies. I thought wow

that was quick. However I have a lot more to go. I have a total of 35 eggs that should be hatching out between today and tomorrow. Now wether or not they all hatch is another question. But I'm having so much fun!!
