Welcome to BYC! sorry you are dealing with rats! I have a mice problem too!

I take the feed away at night. Spray all the tunnels and holes down. I also lifted everything off the ground to prevent tunnels and housing. It has made a big difference for me.

Traps may also work depending where you live ( I live out in the country and they never work since there is too many).

Hiya, and welcome to BYC!

The farm across the road has rats, and only once in a decade did one come over here. Our border collie crawled through the chicken door to get into the coop and killed it.

She doesn't leave feed out, but has huge piles of brush and a couple of old buildings. She knows that until she gets rid of that, they'll not leave. Her coop caved due to so many tunnels. She does the water-bucket thing to get rid of many of them. Something on this order, except she uses a thin board, same principle.

We've also got a couple of barn cats that probably helps too.
