wool sheep

I have some silkies and am thinking about getting some wool sheep. Is it worth it?

That really just depends on what you want to do with them. Do you just want them for pets and/or lawnmowers? Do you want to raise commercial market lambs, replacement/breeding stock, or 4-H/FFA show stock? Will you sell the wool or use it yourself? Can you shear them, or will you have to hire someone to do it? If you need to hire someone, how many shearers are available in your area and what are their rates? How many head do you plan to own? What breeds interest you and will they fit in with your plans? There are a lot of factors to consider when you ask if they are worth it or not.

I think you will just have to weigh your options and decide for yourself whether they would be worth it or not for you. With proper flock management and choosing the right breed or type of sheep for your market and geographical area, sheep can a fun and quite profitable endeavor. Wishing you the best of luck!
