Work schedules and new chicks

And making sure they don't tip over their waterer. We were gone all day when our where little, so I set up two waterers. No matter what I did, they managed to tip one over every day.

Hmm...yes. We'll have the brooder in the house and it will be upstairs in the loft so they'll get plenty of sunshine. (Our brooder is a clear Christmas tree storage box I got on sale; I'll have to post the pics when I get a chance to take some.)

They should be fine. I've left chicks for 3 days before - they should be fine.

Thank you, 7L, cochicks and Mrs. Fluffy Puffy! I needed that reassurance! I feel like a first time Mom!

I work a 10 hour day, and have chicks at home in the brooder. I just make sure everything is secure (lamp, check!) and full (waterer, check! feeder, check!) and they are all lively. The bathroom where I keep the brooders is the first place I go when I get home... so I check on the babies before I check on the adult flock outside in the back yard.

You'll be fine. And so will they!

My first batch I was coming home every day at lunch because I was worried... this 2nd batch I know they are ok. I bought a larger feeder and waterer they can't roost on or tip over so that helps. I was super careful with making sure the temps were perfect the first time, and this time with how the weather fluctuates sometimes I go out there and it's 15 degrees less than they should be at and they are all still running around and having fun.
