Working Sink in Secured Run!

Loving my working sink in the run! It’s hooked up to a garden hose and since the faucets work I can simply turn the water on at the pump as I go to the chickens. I turn the water on anyway as I also have a hose in the less secured run area to fill waterers out there.

The sink was free from a neighbor who wanted it gone. She came over to see it last night and made noises about taking it back now that we had it up and working. NFW. We had almost all of the parts needed on hand - much of it from other people’s garbage. Bathroom remodels have been a treasure trove of useful Materials for us.

The working surface is fantastic to have. I have a few hens with mild poop butt and it was easy to stand them on the counter and run the water and wash them off. It’s easier to wash utensils and feed pans too. We buried the flexible drain pipe as it runs across the front of the shed to a small drain field we made.

This was certainly a unique opportunity for us but people do throw out sinks. If you see one consider picking it up!

You think I’m kidding but I’m not. She told us how she needed a place to wash and how she put out a tub and she has to bend over to use it and it hurts her back (she farms plants). Uh-huh. Then she said ‘why couldn’t Bill do this for me? He’s an engineer! But don’t worry I’m not going to ask for it back’. Damn skippy you’re not - lol!

She’s great but she tends to be impulsive both in buying stuff and in throwing things out. We have an understanding that she’s to ask me if I want stuff before she throws it out - which bless her heart she does. But I wouldn’t be surprised if we get less stuff from her going forward - lol!

Got lucky! a smaller dish pan I had fits inside the sink perfectly. Used it to soak a scab a hen has on her foot. No idea what cut her. Cleaned it and put neosporin on it. Didn’t look or feel infected thank goodness. Of course this happens right before we leave tomorrow for a few days. Grr. What can you do.

That's great! I just showed DH the potting bench, with sink, that I want for Christmas. It just seems so handy.

The drain pipe goes thru a hole in the shed wall that was there from the last time we had chickens 2.5 years ago. Then we angled it down into the ground and trenched it west into the west yard where we made a small drain field. Wouldn’t want to put a ton water thru the system all at once but it takes enough for good usage when needed. And I’ve used it several times a day already. It’s great!
