Working to change chicken laws in Tualatin, Oregon

Anna,

There is a proposed amendment to the Tualatin city code regarding chickens. As of writing this I cannot find the actual document, but it was proposed around 2010. It was shelved by the council until the CIOs were fully formed. The CIOs are basically formed currently, I think there is formal things that need to be done by one of the CIOs, but really we are up and running. It seems like this desire to have chickens within city limits has only been brought up one other time since 2010 and that was in a meeting on March 28th of 2011

Robert Spalding, 5769 SW Joshua Street, Tualatin, OR, was present to discuss "chickens." He noted last year it was brought before Council about allowing chickens in residential areas. It was referred back to the Tualatin Planning Advisory Committee (TPAC), which then drafted proposed language. The issue was then referred to the CIO group. Mr. Spalding asked if there is any way to get this back in front of Council to be voted on in the near future. Mayor Ogden explained how the process arrived at this point, and the general lack of any "grass roots" effort by a number of citizens to ush this issue forward. Brief discussion followed.

I would be happy to get in contact with you regarding this to see if we can maybe start a 'grass roots' effort.

Scott

Hello Scott! I was so thrilled to hear from you. I've been inundated with life "stuff" for the past few weeks so I haven't had a chance to contact you. I'm sorry for the late response.

Thank you for your input on what has happened in Tualatin regarding the chicken ordinance. Yes, let's start a grass roots effort to finish what has been started. Please send me your contact information. I don't know exactly how to go about this, but maybe with a few of us we can get some ideas generated.

My email is [email protected].

Thanks,
Anna

Hello,
I spoke with a neighbor last night who wants to join the grass roots movement. Let's keep getting people on this thread and meet up sometime. I could bring a tray of deviled eggs!! Just kidding. Ours don't peel well.

How do we get the eggs to peel well?

Hi Tualatin residents
I am the neighbor Mike is talking about in the previous post. I am definitely interested in starting a grass roots campaign to get the city code changed. I would suggest a meeting. I would be happy to host a meeting at my home even as early as next week. I have been in contact with several others who are also very interested in seeing this happen.

Immediately after boiling, put them in an ice bath for 30minutes, add ice as it melts. Wrap egg in paper towel and hit fatter end on the counter first(forces the airsac to spread out. Then roll egg to crack the rest of the shell. Use side of finger once inside under the shell to peel. Most of the shell comes off in one piece,
