The rooster to hen ratio at the Kansas Guy homestead is currently stuck at 1:1, and my three EE girls apparently decided they were tired of the guys and weren't going back to the coop for bedtime. When I went to do my head count before locking up, they were missing. I saw the workshop door open so I went to take a look and see if they happened to hide out in there. Lo and behold, perched upon my miter saw, they had found their hideout for the night.

I ended up moving them to the coop since I wasn't really fond of the idea of poop all over my tools.

As a rule of thumb, a ratio of roo to chickens is 1:10. Any lower and it can lead to injury, stress on the hens, which is probably the way your girls are feeling right now. I would also imagine that it is likely to lead to a bit of infighting with the roos also.

Yup, I'm aware. The testosterone fueled rooster rage has really only started in the last week or so. I first put up an ad for 5 bucks apiece but had no takers, then went down to free and still had no luck until this morning, when somebody emailed me wanting to take them for food. Fine by me as one of them charged my 3 year old this morning to get at a hen he was chasing. If I'd have caught that sucker I'd have rung his neck right then. No room for that attitude here, and life is too short to put up with obnoxious roosters.
