Holy smokes! I was cracking eggs to make hubby an omelette and I found a worm in the egg. I threw the whole batch out. I only have one laying hen: a four-year old Black Star who lays about five or six eggs a week. The rest of my flock are pullets and two cockerels as well as an adult Black Marans who doesn't lay anymore. They don't free range; they are kept in a huge coop and run. How should I treat this? Thanks for any advice!

If you do a search on line for 'worm in egg' you will get a bunch of images, hopefully one will resemble what you saw. There have been many cases where a really thick chalaza has been mistaken for a worm. Here are a couple of threads that may (or may not!) help:

Thanks so much, but my worm didn't look anything like a chalaza. Dang, I wish I would have taken a pic of it. No problem though; wormer is on the way!
