worming, dusting, etc

My chicks are about 7-8 weeks old. They've been outside a few times and today was so nice they were outside for about 4-5 hours. They have been in a dog kennel-not free rannging. Do they need to be wormed or duted for anything as a preventative or given anything? I have horses and dogs and am used to preventative maintenance i.e heartworm, advantix, wormers, etc verses waiting u ntil a problem appears. Is that the way I should handle everything with chickens as well? If so, what type of preventatives should I use?

I would think not yet...you may want to just watch their stool
And at the end of the season add some safeguard to their water
Also I use food grade de

To all their bedding and a little in their feed..


I have some 6 week olds too now outside with the gang..and I have peacocks too..peafowl have to be wormed at least 3 times a year..so today I did the 3cc in a gallon of water for my peafowl ..and well, the chickens will pro ably drink it too..so iam sure some will be getting dewormer..lol

Some will say to start with waxen first for a few days then..10 days later treat with the stronger stuff...ivomectin and such

Me I will try the safeguard first a few days and then ivermectin...

Deworming though I would think isn't really necessary just because u had them outside for a few days

But yes..many will have them on a two times a year deworming schedule and others won't..unless they do see an issue
I plan to do a twice a year deworming..at least once a year for sure in early or late winter..

OK, I'm trying not to sound stupid, but how is Safeguard sold? I have horses so I've only seen it in a tube that I does my horses with. I know that definately wouldn't work for chicks.

Where would I find the wormers that you mentioned and how do they come?

we use ivermectin in our goat herd and for our dogs is it cool to use it and how much should i give them

I purchased the safEguard /goats
And add a 3 cc to a gallon of water and do that for 3 days..when it becomes your time to deworming

And then wait a good 10 days and then the ivermectin

Hopefully othersnwill chime in with there own ways too
