Worms in chickens

generally they need worming once a yr
if they are badly infested the manure will have wiggly worms in it
I always wormed all chickens in the fall
what I would do is use the herbal worming as that doesn't keep you from eating the eggs

use
3 tbsp of cayenne pepper to 1 gallon of chicken crumbles
every day and will keep them wormed and free of coccidiosis

any questions email me

Finally someone has a dosage for the cayenne pepper treatment. Everyone that I have talked to just said, turn the feed red with pepper.

Thanks for the measurement.

I usually worm my chickens every 1-3 months, or more often if needed, and my peacocks every month! Especially if it is either rainy or cold outside, they are more succeptable.
You can tell if a chicken needs worming simply because it is getting thin; the breast bone is more prominant. If it is really bad, the bird will become "skin and bones", pale, and extremely weak because the life is literally being sucked out of it! They will usually continue to eat until they get to this point, and hopefully yours are not! (If they are, just let us know and we can try to help you with it.)

Here is how you can worm them, if they are feeling under the weather or just as a preventative: I use 10cc of Ivermectin Sheep Drench per gal of water. Leave them on it for two or three days and your good! Since it is expensive, if you have a small flock, just see if you can pay a friend to take one or two doses of it.
You also need to look out for Coccidiosis. The birds get skinny and often show signs of blood in their stool, if it is bad enough. (this is often a common cause of chick death...usually traces of blood is seen in thier stool). For this, add 2tbsp of Sulmet to one gal of water, you can use the same water as the Ivermectin. This is only about $8 per bottle and you can pick it up at your local feed store.
Good luck and let us know if you need any more info!

Glenda:

For what period of time do you give them the worm treatment? I saw everyday, but I didn't see if that is all the time or just during the fall.

Thanks!

I have poultry drinch it has lots of vitimans. I bought some wazine for them, but for 2 weeks it says not to eat the eggs. So I would rather have an herbal something , so we can still eat the eggs.Would anyone suggest to use the wazine? Has anyone try this?

I usually keep my birds on the wormer/coccidia treatment water for about 2-3 days. Usually that is good enough time.
I have never heard of using an herbal treatment. I just know that these meds work, so I have been using those! (im not sure if I would completely trust an herbal treatment, but thats just me. For example, and i know this is not organic, but I was told to put them on Dia. Earth, for worms and mites, and it didnt work at all!) But it would be very nice to eat to the eggs while we treat them!

I have used from day 7 for my chx
2 tablespoons of ACV in a gal. of water to water my flock and have never seen any worms and all are still their healthy and happy selves except the few I lost to preditors last week.

I just discover one of my hen has worm. I gave her ACV in her water, DE and dry chili powder in her food. My question is, how long will it take for the worm to go away by doing it naturally? I want to continue eating her eggs.
