Hello all! I discovered today that my flock has worms, the look like round worms. A week ago I began to have a huge decline in eggs. I have Wazine17 but I've heard it has a permanant egg withdrawl, and that alot of people swear by Ivermectin pour on. Is it Ivermectin Pour on for Cattle? What should I treat their area with so they aren't reinfected?

Wazine only treats round worms, and other worms that cannot be seen sometimes affect chickens. I like Valbazen (albendazole) since it gets most chicken worms, including cecal worms, capillary worms, gapeworm, and tapeworms with multiple day use. Some use SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer (fenbendazole) as well. All of these are not approved for poultry, but are commonly used to treat chickens. Very few drugs are approved officially in chickens due to egg or meat withdrawal. FARAD has a list of approved medicines and it is small. Most people use a 2 week withdrawal after worming medicines are withdrawn. I believe that Wazine has a 17 day withdrawal. You can contact your local vet for testing of some fresh droppings to see if you have a worm problem, and to know what kinds. Since you know you have roundworms for sure, then you could use any of the above.

Edited to provide generic names.

Use Valbazen or Safeguard liquid goat wormer as Eggcessive stated, you and your chickens wont regret it. My experience using Ivermectin pour on resulted in large roundworm resistance due to its overuse as a miteacide in poultry.
Your soil will be contaminated with worm eggs. It will help if you can rotate areas where they free range. If they are penned, add a layer of sand on top of the soil/sand.
We eat eggs after using wazine, safeguard or valbazen, I'm still here typing.
However if you believe you or a family member might have a reaction to wormer residue in eggs, toss them in the garbage. Do not sell nor give away eggs to be eaten.

Hi dawg. Nice running into you again. Lexs, you can trust anything dawg says about worming. When I was beginning, I started with Safeguard. After a couple years, I started with Valbazen, so there would be no resistance. Now, I switch off.
