worms

hi all,

we have decided to butcher our laying hens--i feel horrible saying this here--because we have a few fox that are devastating our flock so rather than give the fox all of our chickens we want to eat them ourselves. after trying lots of different options, we have decided that our yard is just not great for "pasturing" our chickens. we invested a lot of money in a stationery coop, and now can't afford to build a tractor that would protect them from the fox and it's really important to us to free range them.

anyhow, i am suspicious that our chickens may have worms. their poop has been super runny, but they do seem generally healthy. I have always thought they were pretty lean, though, too. anyhow, a friend who plays at our house a lot just found out that her son has round worms. i am thinking that he may have gotten it from our chickens.

so i am wondering a few things. can we still eat our chickens if they are infected w/ worms? also, has anyone here ever gotten themselves tested for worms? do you think i should have my kids tested?

You would be suprised at how many people harbor worms.

I cant imagine it would be much different to do than testing a dogs, I'm really not sure if your kids could of picked it up from the chickens, I want to say no but I could be wrong. I wouldnt eat them if they do have worms, is there a way you could make an area for them so they are safe, or maybe treat them for worms (if they have them) then re-home them.
