wormy poop

Here is a back-yard-chickens thread on the subject of natural wormers: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/naturally-worming-chickens.135558/page-11#post-18920455

... Even though the natural remedies are healthier for the chickens, they usually take the worms out more gradually.

If worms are coming out of the birds' manure, you may want to take immediate action by purchasing a dewormer at your local feed store or online... However, if you go the un-natural rout, there will be a period of time (specified on the package of the product) that you will not be able to consume the eggs from the chickens being wormed. Also, most un-natural wormers are not a permanent solution... Worms will come back if the environmental factors are not different...

... to keep the worms from coming back, here are some tips:

Keep the chickens living area very clean and remove manure regularly. Keep the food and water clean (change both daily). Put small amounts of vitamin C or Apple cider vinegar in the water (the PH discourages parasitic growth in the digestive system). Feed the chickens probiotics to keep the chickens intestinal flora healthy (probiotics come in some layer feeds but if you can also feed the chickens yogurt with live and active cultures in it... the calcium in yogurt will improve egg shell quality as well).

I hope that this helps! :)

Welcome to Backyardchickens.com aka BYC! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.
I'd guess you are seeing roundworms.
Get some Safeguard or Valbazen asap and treat the whole flock, let me know if you need the correct dosing amounts.

i do the apple cider vinegar in their water and give yogurt too.. and i also add cayenne pepper to their treats every few days.. chickens can't taste the heat from cayenne, but worms sure do.. they hate it and leave the body via pooping.. i never overload their systems.. but i've only ever seen worms in their poop 3 times in just over a year.. tho i have Wazine and Valbazen and such on hand, just in case.. but even with a clean environment, chickens will get worms.. its in the soil..

good luck

Usually a chicken is infested by the time you see the worms in the poop.
You should not rely on the "natural" things to rid worms.
You should also get fecal floats done by a vet to know for sure what worms you are dealing with.
Most people think their chickens don't have worms because until they find out by a vet they really do have them. I've never see a study proving that these methods above have been proven to work, but I have see hundreds of stories on BYC where people swore by these methods until the tests came back positive.
