Hi guys,
This Chick seems stuck. He has been in the same position since 7:30 am. It looks as if he fell into an open egg after hatching and can't get up. He also doesn't even seem to be drying off as fast as the ones born after him. Should I take the bator in the bathroom, get the steam going, open bator and help him up/out? I don't even think he is in his egg.

We had a similar thing happen with ours it took 3 days for the little guy to come out, and took a whole day to dry. The little guy didn't pull through. One minute he was churping the next he was gone was a real shock. I'd suggest moving him so he's got more spare and if there's a hottest point in the incubator I would place he/she there as I really regret not helping ours sooner.

So how should I do this? We have no experience as this is our first try hatching. We have a bunch that have piped and I don't want to shrink wrap those trying to save one chick. What would be the best way to do this without ruining my other hatches? I have bator full.

Does the bathroom thing sound good? Once I disconnect the bator to take into bathroom about how long do I have till temp starts dropping.

just crack open the lid slide your arm in quick grab him and replace lid just do it fast I've done it countless times I have NEVER shrink wrapped a chick or had a bad hatch I remove every chick as its ready to come out, disconnecting and moving the bator would be way more trama and chance for problems then slipping that poor guy out!

OK....I have one who is hatching right next to him. I'm going to wait about 5 minutes until he breaks his membrane then do it. I also plugged the hole back up to get the humidity to go up some. My bator has small holes in the bottom so they will be able to breathe.

Well....wish me luck

If you are not comfortable then dont do it you have to do what you feel is right and use your own instinct too.

My voice of experience will tell you I have done it hundreds of times and I promise you I have never done any harm, never had a batch hatch or any health issues with any chicks

that being said there are going to be a lot of people that have had different results and will give you different advice.

Good luck, keep me posted no matter what you decide to do.

PS KEEP NOTES!!!! this will help in future hatches.

OK...I turned him over. Didn't get to put him on the floor and away from the eggs like I wanted to because I was trying to go as fast as possible and couldn't get a good grip. I did manage to get him out of the egg and turn him over. He landed on his feet. He looks very confused, but at least he is lifting his head and looking around.

So far so good. I now have 9 born. It does seem like the last ones born are taking longer than the first to dry up. Why is that?
