My RIR started laying three weeks ago and has been fairly consistent with it since. She's maybe skipped 2 or 3 days in those three weeks. She is my smallest hen and has laid the biggest eggs, with two double yolkers- one was really large. The last two days she hasn't laid. She'll go in her nest and lay 2 or 3 times during the day, come out and sing her egg song, but nothing is there. I'm worried she could possibly be egg bound? Or am I getting ahead of myself and making more out of it than I need to? I thought maybe she was just skipping a couple days, but the fact that she goes into the nest and tries is what is worrying me. She seems perky and fine- she isn't walking funny or acting strange. Opinions??????

She seems perky and fine- she isn't walking funny or acting strange, If you pick her up and her bottom doesn't feel like and eggs there. shes alright. As you thought, new layers do take breaks of varying lenghts. Many hens just like to hang out in the nests, doesn't mean they are about to lay. Don't know haw many times I gathered eggs while one is on the nest, did something else came back to collect the egg and no egg.

I really appreciate your reply. I'll keep an eye on her and see if anything changes. At this point, she seems fine to me, but I'm home all day so I can watch for different behavior.
